Pursuit of Modesty

|Name:||Anton Creo | Humility|
Personality: Humility knows his own strengths and weaknesses very well and appears to be a well-balanced and even-tempered man. Preferring to remain in the background, it would never cross his mind to glorify himself unfairly or to claim credit for other people's work. He treats everyone with the amount of respect they deserve and is always willing to lend a helping hand if needed.
It would be wrong, however, to think that Humility is a spineless push-over and a fool. He will not allow anyone to exploit or abuse his friendliness. Just because he can afford to work extra hours doesn't mean he will if the occasion doesn't merit it. Thinking you can foist work on him because you're feeling too lazy to do it yourself would be a big mistake because he will see through it and is not afraid to give you a piece of his mind about your shoddy work ethics.
He has principles and firm beliefs - all of them of God's design - which guide him through life, and he can be very passionate when he feels they're being trodden on. Although he knows that he can't expect mere mortals to live up to his standards, that they aren't perfect, he still expects them to do their best to come as close as possible. He is trying to guard their souls and the least they can do is put a little effort into being decent human beings.
It should be mentioned at this point that Humility hasn't always had this attitude towards the Lord's flock. He used to be more lenient and a tad too forgiving in the past. However, when he realised how he was being used and abused, how the mortals cloaked themselves in the values he stood for to garner praise and admiration from their fellow beings and thus fed and stroked the ego of his counterpart, it wounded him deeply.
Further abuse from critics of religion and philosophers like Nietzsche, making him a rather controversial Virtue, have disillusioned him further and turned him into the man he is today. A realist who knows right from wrong and all the shades of grey in between but has faith in the Lord and himself and is not afraid to do what is necessary to make people realise the true nature of genuine Humility.
History: Although Catholic texts view Humility as annexed to the cardinal virtue of temperance, he is listed independently as one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues and stands for bravery and modesty. Due to his position as acting counterpart to the deadly sin of Pride, he is sometimes considered the first virtue which finds justification in the fact that Humility removes the obstacles to faith, namely Pride, and makes man subject to and a fit recipient of the grace of God.
During the Middle Ages the concept of the Heavenly Virtues and Deadly Sins was made widely known across Europe thanks to the intense popularity of Aurelius Clemens Prudentius' epic poem Psychomachia (Contest of the Soul) which was about the battle of good virtues and evil vices.
Humility arrived in America with Spanish missionaries in the 18th century and has continued to do the Lord's work to the best of his abilities. Of course, he has noticed the waning belief in the usefulness and the perversion of the Virtues' nature but that does not dishearten or deter him from his purpose. He will work harder and fight for the salvation of his Lord's beloved humans.
